Emma Romano

Emma is an associate of the firm with diverse experience in civil litigation.

Emma’s diverse practice includes media and defamation, professional liability, and aviation law, as well as commercial and general civil litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Emma summered and articled at the Toronto office of a national full-service firm, working primarily in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution group on complex commercial disputes. Prior to and during law school, Emma worked as an Associate Producer in local and national current affairs at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

    • Mask v. Goldcorp, Inc., et al, (unreported, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, 2019) (successfully resisted a motion for leave to examine served upon a journalist within a proposed class action under Part XXIII.1 of the Ontario Securities Act, with costs awarded to the journalist)
    • Core Insight Strategies Inc. v. Advanced Symbolics, 2019 ONSC 2109 (successfully resisted a motion to add as a party to a commercial dispute an individual who filed access to information requests alleged to be defamatory for implying that wrongful conduct took place)
    • Niagara Ice Dogs Hockey Club Inc. v. Ontario Major Junior Hockey League, 2019 ONSC 2629 (opposing sealing order)
    • A.P. v. L.K., 2019 ONSC 4010 (opposing publication ban and sealing order)
    • Lotin v. Gregor, 2019 ONSC 1510 (defamation summary judgment motion)
    • Barcelos v. SATA International – Azores Airlines, SA (unreported, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Toronto Small Claims Court, 2019) (successfully obtained the dismissal of an action against an air carrier in relation to compensation under European air passenger rights regulation)
    • Toronto (City) v. Ontario (Attorney General), 2018 ONCA 761 (represented the intervener, the City Clerk of the City of Toronto, in high profile litigation regarding Toronto’s ward structure in advance of municipal election)
