Ioana BALA

Admitted to Bar, 2007, Ontario

Ioana has been an associate at BJCTB since 2007. She has a varied litigation practice, with particular experience in the aviation, defamation/media industries and mental health law. She has been involved in claims work, regulatory and commercial disputes, administrative law, libel/slander, employment law and constitutional law. She has participated in cases before administrative tribunals and various courts, including a number of appellate cases before the Federal Court of Appeal,  Ontario Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Canada.

In law school, Ioana was a student legal advisor in a specialized legal clinic, acted as editor-in-chief of an academic journal and acted as a student advisor in the mooting program. Ioana also received several scholarships and legal writing prizes and was an Honours student.
   
For her articles, Ioana was a judicial clerk at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, where she assisted judges of that Court in a variety of cases.

Ioana is also fluent in French and Romanian.
